Gordon's Print & Photo Price 2007 CD-ROMs + 2007 Print Photo Price books

Posted May 4, 2007

LTB Gordonsart Inc. offers the best book, CD-ROM, and online database services for original prints and photographs available anywhere. Gordonsart listings are more detailed and contain more information than comparable products offered by competing art price data publishers. The quality of the data is key here. Gordon's annual books, CD-ROMS, and online databases of sales results and item descriptions contain technical data not found elsewhere such as quality of image impressions, paper types, condition information, and margin details (taken directly from descriptions provided in auction catalogues). In addition, Gordon's editorial staff reviews and corrects incorrect titles, editions or states, catalogue raisonne numbers, and other errors that may appear in auction catalogue listings. For many major artists, titles of artworks are additionally translated into the language of the catalogue raisonne which saves dealers, appraisers, and researchers the trouble of having to make the translations themselves. And included with all the company's products, are comprehensive bibliographies of reference books that can be uses for additional research.

Gordon's Photography Price Annual International 2007 contains over 14,000 sales results for original photographs sold at international auctions during the 2006 season. Sales results include those for 19th and 20th century photographs as well as books and periodicals that contain original photographs. Essential information about negatives, print dates, signature information, and other critical details are also included. But wait; there's more. You also get an extensive bibliography of photography literature which comes in mighty handy if you need additional information about the photographers or images you're researching.

With respect to all Gordonsart products, the more you know about a print or photograph in terms of condition, signature information, and other particulars, the better you can apply its selling price at auction to similar prints or photographs that you either own or are considering buying. For example, if you're researching a particular Edward Weston photograph, and you find two auction selling prices for it, one for $50000 and the other for $15000, you have to understand what the precise differences between those two photographs are in order to know which price is more applicable to the photograph you're considering buying. Maybe the $50000 photograph is in mint original condition and signed by Weston. Maybe the $15000 photograph is unsigned, cut down along the margins, or signed and titled by someone other than Weston. Auction prices mean little or nothing unless they're accompanied by enough in the way of description for you to accurately assess why a selling price is what it is. It's that simple and no more complicated. And of course, if you're not a professional art appraiser and you're playing for keeps, hopefully you'll come to your senses and hire one.
