YO! WHAT HAPPENED TO PEACE? OPENING 03.11.04 Comment: Punch strikes again with an unadulterated winner. Every once in a while, I leave a show feeling totally satisfied, having seen really good art that does exactly what it's supposed to do. In this case, it's propaganda art raging with intense anti-war sentiment; no middle ground here. If you love the way America's being run, you'll hate this show; if you hate the way America's being run, you'll love this show. The art's mainly silkscreens, and aside from a couple of clunkers, skilled examples of the silkscreening arts. Many are available for purchase, most cost under $100. A related book, PEACE SIGNS, is also for sale (published, oddly enough, in Switzerland). If you wanna see effective use of art as protest, then a Punch pilgrimage would be in order. Make art; not war. Note to artists: You've made your art, you've made your statements, your politics are obvious; NOW DON'T FORGET TO VOTE.
