BELCHER ARTISTS SPRING SHOW 05.14.04 Comment: 69 Belcher is a bit out of the ordinary, a squarish ivy-covered building with a spiffy two-story main exhibition area surrounded on two sides by a balcony walkway, an abundance of circuitous halls and ante-rooms, and loft-style studios upstairs (a tad claustrophobic and quite close to the ceiling). The overall quality of the art in the main space is pretty decent, at or near gallery level, and is shown by artists who either currently or formerly had studios in the building. 69 Belcher bills itself as a "hidden refuge for artists," and that it is, existing pretty much outside the local art radar. It's worth a visit, though. On this night, one upstairs studio serving hard liquor attracted the ubiquitious handful of roving art freeloaders like maggots to carrion. Artist/Artists: Carlo Abruzzese, Charles Stinson, Julie Montgomery, Michael Mullin, Marcia Teusink, Julie Alland, Paul O'Valle, Christian Jusinski, Mark Schaer, Cheryl Kimple, John C. Hundt.
