OPENING 06.11.04 Comment: OnSix is an art gallery at Club Six, a big room with a high ceiling, wall seating, and a long bar, on a sleazy pulse-pounder block just South of Market. The lights are on, uncommon for a place like this, but kinda cool 'cause you get to see the players. The art is gritty urban stuff for the most part-- street hip, ghetto pop, bucket o' crude. And it's relevant and it's well done. When are the "we only show art school art" galleries gonna wake up and start harvesting this crop? Swindle, by the way, is a quarterly magazine coming soon from Shepard Fairey. The club's clientelle is energized and anticipatory with lots of jostling, in fact, far more jostling than your average art event, which usually bodes well for a satisfying outcome. I was outta there before 11, but I'm gonna step out on the ever trembling limb of art, and assume that things got even better later. Artist/Artists: Shepard Fairey, Natas Kaupas, Chris Lindig, John Bradford, Nicole Martin, Christopher Glancy, Andrew Jeffery Wright, Anthony Yankovic III, Michael Schmelling, Caleb Neelon, Peter Sutherland, National Forrest, Florencio Zavala, Katsuo Design, Lohn LaCroix.
