BARBI, SPEED, AND GRAFFITI OPENING 08.13.04 Comment: Utopian art-a-rama Million Fishes Collective opens an additional exhibition space to the public for this rambling show, much of which is being brought to you at the expense of that icon of feminity, Barbie. Artists just love doing things to Barbie that aren't in the owners manual, the consequence, of course, being that they void the warranty. The rest of the show is a little of this and a little of that, themed more on the artists who are exhibiting and their relationship to each other than on anything else. Of note is a grotesque, disturbingly realistic doll house war diorama, complete with blood, weapons, death, destruction, dismembered limbs, soldiers, and innocent victims. Several young children found the scene amusing, but they don't have to live it; others do. Artist/Artists: Miriam Blachman, Kevin Clarke, Michael Shankman, Jenn Crawford, Mischa Purcell, Phoebe Seligman, Ben Flax, Yes Duffy, Sari Pace, Nick Brubaker, others, and a show window mural by Precita Eyes.
