A SPOONFUL OF SUGAR OPENING 09.17.04 Comment: The show is about the enormity of war and its imperialist aspects. The art is entirely competent as well as poignant, but my main beef is that while war is overwhelming, destructive, horrific and awful-- particularly the War in Iraq-- the art in this show is tiny and delicate and thoughtful and all but vaporized by the scope of war's catstrophic consequences. As an artist at odds with a colossus, you cannot expect to make your artistic point if people have to squint just to see what that point is. Remember Guernica? That's what I'm talkin' about. So get busy. Peaceful people around the world depend on you to conceptualize their outrage. Artist/Artists: Michael Arcega, Kristin Lucas, Steven Lambert, Julia Page, Mads Lynnerup, Packard Jennings, Linda Ford, Pam Martin.
