Comment: Art from recycled materials. Spoke briefly with Lola (no last name-- hard to search on Google-- you gotta think about those things these days). Here, Lola recycles old fashioned printing press letters by arranging and presenting them under layers of applied glossy white resin; she also collages pieces of discarded signage. She tells me that applying white resin requires care and finesse because if you get a bug or a hair in it, it's ruined and you have to start over. Fair enough. Then what?

Receiver Gallery: New Work by Gregory Euclide.

Comment: What I like about Minneapolis artist Gregory Euclide, in addition to his art (which is entirely proficient), is that he explains the compositions extremely well. He paints science fictionesque landscapes-- I can see that-- but then he points to various details, tells me what exactly each one represents, and in the process, significantly enhances my experience of his work. He incorporates a variety of ideas including growth, decay, migration, past, present, urban, rural, motion, and for you thermodynamics hobbyists-- entropy. The broader point is that the more completely a viewer understands and connects with a work of art, the more likely that viewer is to whip out the wallet and let fly with the lettuce. But back to Euclide, he was recently featured in New American Painting and is beginning to get some decent national exposure. Meanwhile, Receiver Gallery consistently shows some eminently purchase-worthy product from its outpost there in the Avenues. Stop by; you'll see what I mean.

The Shooting Gallery and White Walls: Wet Paint - Another Day in the Life of a Painting.

Artists: Eric Bailey, Bryan Bancroft, Shawn Barber, Bigfoot, Wesley Burt, Kim Cogan, CORO, Curve, Mike davis, Ewik, Natalia fabia, David Flores, Sam Flores, Bruce Gossett, Sylvia Ji, Ian Johnson, Eric Joyner, Henry Lewis, Kevin llewellyn, Rogelio Martinez, MARS, Anne Faith Nicholls, Joshua Petker, Lee Harvey Roswell, Saber, Patrick Segui, Dave Wong, Adam 5100, Andrea Wickland, more.

Comment: The debut installment of "Wet Paint" was good; this, the second, better. The plot is simple-- Siamese art emporia, The Shooting Gallery and White Walls, are filled up with artists who commence to perpetrate art at 11 am, and proceed for the following 12 hours, with the time slot from 7 pm to 11 pm optioned for a red wine reception. Spectators may come anytime and watch, ask questions, make comments, talk about the weather, take photos, or maybe even buy something (now there's a novel idea). "Wet Paint" is another example of how progressive galleries present art in ways that deepen our appreciation of the creative process, and bring us closer to those who create.
