RECENT PAINTINGS BY ECKHARD ETZOLD OPENING 10.08.04 Comment: Eckhard Etzold's fuzzed-up contemporized photorealism is created using both airbrush and paint brush to replicate images projected onto canvas. The images, either computer generated graphics or actual photographs taken at natural history museums around the world, are projected individually or superimposed to achieve the final effects. The work is good, particularly the sparser compositions and those incorporating computer graphics, but it doesn't exactly have me on the edge of my seat, not that the ability to bring one to the edge of one's seat is or should be a requirement of art. In fact, most people prefer being comfortably ensconsed within their seats to being on the edge, and being on the edge too much causes excess edge wear. German-born Etzold currently lives in New York; this is his third show at Bucheon. Artist/Artists: Eckhard Etzold.
