SFMOMA Artists Gallery at Fort Mason: Marta Thoma, Kim Thoman, Joe Doyle. Comment by AB: Roller coaster sculptures by Marta Thoma consist of multicolored bottles "strung" onto bent metal rods. Kim Thoman creates a pastel painting, then takes a detail of that painting and digitally morphs its form, then incorporates that form into a new painting, and so on and so forth. You might call her modus an unfolding evolutionary progression. Lastly but certainly not leastly, we have Joe Doyle's amusing warp on composite photography with images that include a hydrogen bomb in sitting in the middle of a small room, and a fur coated cup and saucer. For those of you scoring at home, Kim Thoman and Marta Thoma are sisters. Digitally manipulated photography by Joe Doyle. Photos (Joe Doyle). Photographs (Joe Doyle). Art (Kim Thoman). Comment by AB: Loads of affordable art by probably most of North Beach's most notorious (and longstanding) artists, with the crowd consisting of probably most of North Beach's most notorious (and longstanding) characters. Always an outrage. And now for brief public service announcement for those of you concerned about the economy: The PanOpticonsters understand that affordable art sells, and it's selling tonight, like for example a large painting by Lawrence Ferlinghetti for $500. You see artsters-- here's the deal-- at some point, selling prices become too attractive for buyers to pass up, even if they might have to forego a few meals to bulk up their collections. Art (Lawrence Ferlinghetti paintings - center). Lawrence Ferlinghetti painting pricetag (sorry - sold). Art. Art. Talking about art. Poet George Tsongas - Mark Alvarez (dude's got the best beat in town). My fave (What if you gave a dinner and nobody came?). Art. Ronald Sauer - art. Documenting the event. Art. Tunes - ambience. *** |
