Hatch Gallery: Edmund Wyss and Aaron Rosenstreich - Frameline. Review by John Casey: Edmund Wyss creates highly detailed paintings of cameras and other lens-based machinery. Using a wide-angle lens with an ocular view, Aaron Rosenstreich photographs construction sites. The two bodies of work complement each other nicely. The Hatch Gallery (formerly Ego Park). Johansson Projects: Katy Stone and Yvette Molina - Tickling Thicket. Review by John Casey: Katy Stone uses acrylic paint on Duralar to create large spore-like installations. These assemble especially well in small, enclosed spaces. Yvette Molina paints dreamy landscapes on metalic surfaces. Although you'll find no people or animals in these environments, an etherial energy seems to occupy the space. Floor plan. Art by Katy Stone. Art by Katy Stone. Art by Katy Stone. Artists: Kevin Chen, Jen Elia, Narangkar Glover, Peter Glover, Eleanor Harwood, Daniel Healey, Carrie Lederer, Michelle Mansour, Nicole Neditch, Margaret Tedesco Review by John Casey: This show at Blankspace features work by gallery owners, curators, and arts administrators who also happen to be artists. Since Blankspace gallerists Jason Byers and Kerri Lee Johnson are also artists, this show is an appropriate tribute to this art world duality. Art by Carrie Lederer. Art by Michelle Mansour. The Compound Gallery: Scott Reilly - October 9, 1969; Kerri Lee Johnson - New Work. Review by John Casey: Scott Reilly builds a moving tribute to his brother who died in an unfortunate accident as a child. On a lighter note, Kerri Lee Johnson shows storybook-like drawings populated with by otherworldly cast of characters. Art by Scott Reilly. Art by Scott Reilly. Art by Scott Reilly. Review by John Casey: Colorful and expressive paintings, sometimes abstract, sometimes figurative, are on display by Maxwell Holyoke Hirsch. There are some seemingly less connected sculptures shown as well. Some very affordable pricing on smaller works. Art by Maxwell Holyoke Hirsch. Art by Maxwell Holyoke Hirsch. San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art: Manuel Neri - The Figure in Relief; Chris Dorosz - The Painted Room Review by John Casey: Internationally acclaimed sculptor Manuel Neri presents a comprehensive exhibition of painted sculptures, maquettes and works on paper. Chris Dorosz creates the illusion of a life-size living room suspended in space using acrylic paint blobs suspended by mono-filament. The first impression is of an abstract work but after more study, the "living room" emerges. A very cool effect. Art by Manuel Neri. Art by Manuel Neri. Art by Manuel Neri. Art by Manuel Neri.
