Comment by AB: Photographs from Icelend by two eminently established and accomplished photographers, both with numerous exhibitions, accolades, and books to their credit. Special added environmental bonus-- Iceland still has ice. Do you like classic fine art photography? Then you'll like Gallery 291. Photography by Michael A. Smith. Photographs (Michael A. Smith). Comment by AB: Tipperary, Ireland artist Patricia Looby intensely researches mid-nineteenth century maps of the locale where she grew up and paints the lands they represent as they appeared circa that time period. The work at first looks abstract, but once she starts explaining them, you realize the intensity of their significance-- scaled recreations of her family farmland as it existed over 150 years ago. Extremely well painted, detailed, meticulously textured, thoughtful, heartfelt, and definitely worth a look. I suppose it all goes to show that no matter where you are, you're never far from home.
