Jack Hanley Gallery: Maria Antelman and Tamar Halpern; Michelle Blade - The Elliptical Good-Kind.
Comment by AB: Maria Antelman's video, New Horizons, "superimposes a question and answer session with a cryogenics 'salesman,' over video and sound recorded at a rodeo," which, according to the fact sheet, results in an "eerie study on mortality." OK. If you say so. Tamar Halpern's "photographs" evolve from a progression of digital scans, manipulations, overlays, size changes, and so on and so forth until voila. Michelle Blade's adventures in painting on Dura-lar result in several striking abstract representational meet-me-somewhere-in-the-middle mystical scenery kinda deals. Plus she paints up a "rug" for the center of the gallery floor, equally engaging from her amalgam perspective.

Muse Photo Studio: Sam Fuchs - Adam Gray.
Comment by AB: This appears to be an "event space" available for-- you guessed it-- events. Tonight's event features the digital acrobatics of Southern California artists Sam Fuchs and Adam Gray, their basic modus being to take scrillions of teeny tiny objects and symbols and shit, and collage them via computer into art prints of all sizes and subjects. The good news? The finished pieces are enjoyable at any distance (my fave). Meanwhile back at the event space-- it's a couple of blocks down Sixth Street, it's 4000 square feet, it's got a loft/balcony area, and will fit the bill nicely for most any gallery show (as evidenced here this evening).
