San Francisco City Hall: A Celebration of Life; Tsunami Fundraiser with art by Veerakeat.

Comment: Veerakeat paints city scenes in perpetual vertigo motion. His art is easy to recognize, easy to enjoy, easy to live with. Here, he's donated 30 of his favorite paintings to be auctioned for Tsunami relief. While I was there, the Golden Gate Bridge painting that appears on the show announcement was bid to over $6000. The way sales were going as I left the event, this artist's overwhelming generosity will certainly result in some tens of thousands of dollars in aid for those whose lives were irrevocably changed in a last-December instant.

Also appearing at the event were Lesbian/Gay Chorus of San Francisco, The Gay Men's Chorus of San Francisco, Conspiracy of Beards, male accapella choral group, Thai Music and Dance from Wat Buddhanusorn Thai Buddhist monastery, and MuayThai Kickboxing Demonstration by Fairtex.

One Taste Urban Retreat Center: Balance; Mihail Kivachitsky.

Comment: Mihail Kivachitsky has been living in America for about four years, emigrating from the Kyrgyz Republic (part of the former Soviet Union). He speaks broken English, but is able to convey that his art is imbued with Eastern mystical transcendental aspects. He's skilled and multitalented-- draws, paints, sculpts in bronze (beautifully patinated), and sculpts in wood-- choosing soft sepia-toned pencil drawings for this show in order to complement the meditative atmosphere of One Taste. Kivachitsky seems somewhat intinerant at the moment, in terms of showing and selling, that is, but he's definitely got a future, and he could probably use a dealer.
