The Shooting Gallery - San Francisco Art Openings

THE SHOOTING GALLERY
NEW WORKS BY YUMIKO KAYUKAWA, LISA ALISA, WANYU CHOU
OPENING 01.13.05

Comment: Kayukawa's from Japan; Alisa's from Queens; Chou's from LA. All are classically trained in Eastern technique; all have ramped it up very comtemporary. Alisa and Kayukawa make soft tough girl art-- we can be nice, but we can also be not nice, but then we can be nice again. Kayukawa's nice is sexy nice, and all her art's sold. I'm told she has a following, and that just about every piece got bought off the website before the show even opened. Alisa's nice is tetanus nice; she keeps her blade rusty and uses it if she has to. Chou paints more cerebral, ephemeral, and floaty. Her small pieces are very reasonable in $$; her large "Candy Land" halts you softly. Everything's worth a see-- we don't get much of this kind of art in SF. The best part of the show? No big eyes.

Artist/Artists: Yumiko Kayukawa, Lisa Alisa, Wanyu Chou.
