San Francisco Art Openings: Million Fishes Gallery

MILLION FISHES COLLECTIVE: SUBMERGE
OPENING 06.10.04

Comment: Seventeen artists of varying disciplines living together, sharing ideas, creating and exhibiting together, this being their inaugural show. The gallery/performance area connects directly to their cavernous living arrangement, a circuitous multi-level catacombed affair consisting of a basement and ground floor, many rooms connected by long halls-- sleep rooms, work rooms, eat rooms-- a romantic utopian art submarine. The concept is still very much in process having been in existence only seven months. The gallery was packed, a modest admission charged. People lined up around the corner to get in; those who couldn't peered through the windows and milled about on the street. Art on the walls, fashion on the runway, music in the ear, good feelings in the air, and a dude serving wine out of a boat hull guarded by a large goldfish.

Artist/Artists: Miriam Blachman, Kevin Clarke, Michael Shankman, Jenn Crawford, Mischa Purcell, Phoebe Seligman, Ben Flax, Yes Duffy, Sari Pace, Nick Brubaker, others.
