Toomey Tourell Gallery: Roni Feldman - Eclipse.

Comment by AB: Los Angeles artist Roni Feldman tells me he harvests photographs of crowds from the internet, organizes them into complex themed compositions, and then faithfully transforms them into super subtle airbrush and acrylic paintings. You gotta look closely and in just the right light to get Feldman's drift, but once you do that, the rest is cake.a

    Micaela Gallery: COLD+HOT 2010.

Artists: Peter Bremers, Kathleen Elliot, Michael Janis, Michelle Knox, Weston Lambert, Carol Lawton, Mark Leibowitz, Silvia Levenson, Susan Longini, Thomas Scoon, Carmen Spera, Tim Tate, Kristiina Uslar.

Review by Anneliese Vobis: Exciting, visionary and innovative designs are the dominate Cold + Hot 2010 at Micaela Gallery. The work ranges in characteristic from straightforward and direct to expressive and filled of personality. The properties of glass materials are intensely explored to create objects which have organic as well as sculptural qualities. A show not to be missed at 49 Geary.

Hang Art Gallery: Liminality - Andrzej Michael Karwacki.

Review by RWM: It is raining here, very possibly with pollution. The vertical schemes and uncomfortable color combinations should have us worried. All sorts of refuse seems to be coming down in the downpour as we confront the uncomfortable notion that the sky may be falling along with the raindrops. We must never forget that water is a right, not just a commodity, and exercise great care with our precious reservoirs and watersheds.

Public Barber Salon: Eli Harris - Dance the Collapse.

Review by Anneliese Vobis: Eli Harris activates the barber space with his colorful realistic illustrations. Contrasting subject matters meld together to create lively conversations. The wall of mirrors opposite the art brings the whole installation to a different level of awareness. The broken mirror composition at the back wall particularly adds immense drama to the project.

Driftwood Salon: The Realms Of The Oceans.

Artists: Alexander Schaffer Czech, Noah Ptolemy, Octavian Florescu, Mark Ficsher, Audrey Kral, Rafael Bensuaski Vieira, Carolyn Miller, Shilo Ratner, Daniel Barron, Jennifer Partrite, Martin Zuniga, Beatrice Hunt.

Review by Anneliese Vobis: The artists work in collaboration with the Center for Marine Diversity, and a portion of all proceeds go directly to assisting with victims of the Gulf Oil Spill. The beauty of life is overshadowed by the destruction of marine habitats; the ongoing castrophe in the Gulf will have many impacts on our environment. Several artists respond with a realistic storytelling art approach to convey their shock and confront the public with their angst and pain about our future. A very moving show.

    Hotel Biron: Borrowed Space.

Artists: Ivan Feerman, Eddie, Sean Desmond, D. Young V, Hugh Leeman. Curated by Hugh Leeman.

Review by Anneliese Vobis: An alluring interior paired with expressive 2D works invite the public to relax and enjoy the judiciously selected art. The unified look of the show perhaps points toward the artists participating in subsequent collaborations.
