Braunstein/Quay Gallery: Robert Brady - New Work.

Review by RWM: You'll see art here on display that you've never seen before and will surely be impressed by the novelty-- so unusual it defies style. You can't help but appreciate the originality. The sculpture, appearing as though on canvas, is emotionally involving.

Comment by AB: Great show; highly recommended. Positively not the same-old same-old.

Hosfelt Gallery: EINFLUSS: 8 from Düsseldorf, Introducing the Next Wave from Germany - Part 2.

Artists: Stefan Ettlinger, Jutta Haeckel, Luka Fineisenm, Driss Ouadahi, Bernard Lokai, Stefan Kürten, Cornelius Völker, Birgit Jensen.

Review by RWM: A wild variety of art presented here. The most memorable are sculptural bubbles that are positioned on the floor. It is not clear what they are made of. You can easily imagine them as soap bubbles; they're that convincing. Cool not to have to worry about someone bursting your bubble, but you'll likely be reluctant to touch these; they look like they can go either way.

Comment by AB: Certainly worth a visit.

Silverman Gallery: Job Piston - We Took A Family Portrait.

Comment by AB: Job Piston sensitively essays on his family property in Taiwan, once rural, now surrounded by high-rises. The dilemma? Either yield to the developers (and their attractive cash offers to buy the family out) or stand your ground and honor your past. Hmmm. I'll have to cogitate on that.

Gallery Heist: Let's Party - Mike Giant and Mike Kershnar.

Review by Clare Coppel: A collaborative show of works created by Mike Giant and Mike Keshnar called "Let's Party" consists primarily of black and white images on wood and other materials such as skateboards and bottles. Compositional options include girls with tattoos, teepees, Coit Tower, horses, owls and guns. Very much a slice of San Francisco.

ArtZone 461 Gallery: Terry Thompson - Urban Signs.

Review by RWM: Nice to see the vast variety of work on display here, both memorable and accomplished. In the side gallery are the impressive paintings of Terry Thompson. He evokes the past in his paintings of commercial signs that still survive from a bygone era. You may well remember different times here. The signs depicted were art objects themselves when constructed, showcasing neon lights and stylish designs. Marvel at their commemoration expressed in these paintings. We have not all outgrown this time.

Review by RWM: Fun. Surprising. Novel connections to be decifered. One need not find it terrific, but it is unexpectedly captivating.

Comment by AB: Visual and auditory artist Prairie Prince (painter and founding member of The Tubes) celebrates his 60th year, so let's have one bodaciously unrestrained mega mungo art & music party around that. The crowd is so hip my self-esteem gets a contact high. And it's so dense, making any headway towards either the art or the stage is pretty much out of the question. But then you might expect that with a star-studded docket that includes The Tubes, The Charlatans, The Merman, and much much more. All told, they tell me, sixteen name bands play well into the wee wee hours of the morning. Yo!!!
