Eleanor Harwood Gallery: Gregory Ito - Moonstruck.

Comment by AB: For a moment I think I'm in Home Depot, though the reality of the matter is that Gregory Ito here discourses on his enduring relationship with the moon, from cosmic, domestic and intimate interpersonal perspectives. Every artwork tells a story, but best part here is that you don't have to know the story to appreciate the work. Well conceived, capably crafted and effectively presented. See for yourself.

White Walls Gallery: In One Hand a Ghost, the Other an Atom - New2.

Review by Anne Ross: As street art incorporates breaking the rules, the graffiti-inspired work of Australian artist, New2, makes a splash in this black-walled gallery space. His exhibit, "In One Hand a Ghost, the Other an Atom," captures the look of tagged buildings and trains. New2's work remains true to the energy of the spray can which began his career. Now, however, having moved on to other materials, his work is composed of intricate and precise paper cut-outs. A multi-layered collage, Hitachi 1, shows the side of a train car, complete with letters scrawled on a window and an inspired burst of color covering the exterior. Known and Louvain La Neuve tend toward the abstract, suggesting the frenetic light and energy of an urban landscape. The craftsmanship of this artist is admirable. A visit to this exhibit is well worth your while.

The Shooting Gallery: Steppe Warriors - Zaya.

Review by Anne Ross: International artist and former monk, Zaya, deftly explores Mongolian artistic traditions in his exhibit, "Steppe Warriors." Spending as much as a year on certain pieces, he combines ancient style and themes with contemporary Asian techniques. Rich detailed ink, watercolor, gouache and mixed media paintings depict warriors, hunters, nomads and royalty. Many scenes are inspired by the horsemen history of Ghengis Khan. With fluid and elegant lines, Zaya's painting "Affection" captures the chaos of pounding hooves and the furor surrounding a man's wife being abducted. His painting "Lords of Steppe" depicts the majesty and wildness of the men, the horses, and the accompanying bird of prey. Zaya's talent is unmistakable.

Comment by AB: This dude can paint; check it out.

Art Primo SF: MQIZM - MQ aka MKUE.

Review by Anne Ross: Paying homage to the endless possibilities contained in a can of spray paint, Art Primo's entryway, retail display and gallery all showcase parts of the process. From an artful arrangement of the tools of the trade right through to the end result, the space highlights the immediate and kinetic nature of street art. The back gallery exhibits framed work created by graffiti writer, MQ, including an image of C3PO and R2D2 against a tagged backdrop. An enjoyable space.
