Altman Siegel Gallery: Jessica Dickinson - Of-.

Comment by AB: The works in this show are kind of like timelines in art with their multiple layers, textures, rubbings, notches, scrapes and nicks. These artistic depictions of weathering are perhaps riffs on the ravages of age. You might call the process visual journaling. Go see.

Toomey Tourell Gallery: Nathaniel Price - Drawn.

Comment by AB: The centerpiece of the show is a sequence of life-sized figure drawings done over a six-year period that represent latter stages along the birth-death continuum. The figures are entirely composed of or outlined in written terms relating to the human constitution-- body parts, muscles, organs and other anatomical aspects. Also on display are neatly stacked charred wood sculptures, concentric circle drawings, and a cast block of chalk used to create really big drawings by being dragged around the city. Notably odd in every respect, but all well executed and worth a visit.

Caldwell Snyder Gallery: City Walk & Other Stories - Rik van Iersel.

Comment by AB: I can't help but wonder, if Basquiat were alive today at age 53, whether these paintings would be somewhere in the vicinity of what his art might look like.

    The Loin: Akruva - D Young V.

Comment by AB: D Young V peps up the interior of The Loin screen print shop with a floor to ceiling installation of his signature brand of intense militaristic propaganda art. This dude does up an interior RIGHT.
