Gallery 291: Paula Chamlee & Michael A. Smith - Iceland.

Comment by AB: Photographs from Icelend by two eminently established and accomplished photographers, both with numerous exhibitions, accolades, and books to their credit. Special added environmental bonus-- Iceland still has ice. Do you like classic fine art photography? Then you'll like Gallery 291.

Yerba Buena Center for the Arts: The Gatherers - Greening Our Urban Spheres.

Artists and artist collectives: Fallen Fruit, Amy Franceschini with Wilson Diaz, The National Bitter Melon Council, Oda Projesi, Marjetica Potrc, Public Matters, Ted Purves and Susanne Cockrell, Rebar, roomservices and Åsa Sonjasdotter. Co-curated by Berin Golonu and Veronica Wiman.

Comment by AB: This one's not so much about art as it is about incorporating green solutions into our urban habitats. Options include proposals for more effective use of space, instruction on how to grow hanging gardens, the wonders of recycling, free organic potatoes, and more.

David Cunningham Projects: Patricia Looby - field systems.

Comment by AB: Tipperary, Ireland artist Patricia Looby intensely researches mid-nineteenth century maps of the locale where she grew up and paints the lands they represent as they appeared circa that time period. The work at first looks abstract, but once she starts explaining them, you realize the intensity of their significance-- scaled recreations of her family farmland as it existed over 150 years ago. Extremely well painted, detailed, meticulously textured, thoughtful, heartfelt, and definitely worth a look. I suppose it all goes to show that no matter where you are, you're never far from home.
