Intersection for the Arts: Evan Bissell - somewhere in advance of nowhere; youth, imagination and transformation. Comment by AB: The show is part inspirational portraits by Evan Bissell, part collaborative writings and community mural painting with local youth groups, and all worthy. Art by Evan Bissell. Local youth group art. Map of community art projects. Art. *** Art at the Dump: Barbara Holmes - Re(F)use; Casey Logan - Tell Me Your Story; Amy Dotts - Illusiona. Comment by AB: Maybe it's garbage; maybe it's art. According to the Artist-in-Residence program at SF Recycling & Disposal, Inc, it's definitely art. And according to the three artists exhibiting tonight, that contention would be confirmed. We've got an installation by Casey Logan, sculptural assemblage by Amy Dotts, and dimensional works by Barbara Holmes, mainly wood. My favorites? The plaster lath "sculptures" by Barbara Holmes. Comment by AB: An ode to our environmentally friendly two-wheeled friend, the velocipede, courtesy of Alexander La Riviere, owner of Faber's Cyclery in downtown San Jose, one of the oldest bicycle shops in California, in business since 1921. The exhibit is a combination of bicycle history, antique bicycles, the role of the bicycle in society, and a documentary video and articles about La Riviere himself. Educational, informative, and most importantly... relevant. Bicycle-abilia. Bicycle art. Alexander La Riviere. Bicycle history. Bicycle-abilia. Comment by AB: Between now and November 6, every Friday and Saturday night from 7 to 11 pm, Anne Colvin reenacts the Colony Room Club, a private London Soho "drinking den" and hangout for British artists, operational from 1948 to 1979. It's the debut project at "The Garage" space adjacent to New Langton Arts. Admission is $5 for which you can enjoy guest artists informally presenting videos, readings, performances, book signings, and more. Of course, for purposes of historical accuracy, a variety of fermented concoctions will be available for consumption. Tonight's featured guest is Tom Marioni signing copies of his memoir "Beer, Art and Philosophy." Libation station. Book signing depot. Way way back in the good old days, before computer graphics, skate deck designs were drawn in full-scale by hand-- believe it or not-- and you can see plenty of that here. For you archivists in the crowd, the work on display dates from 1993 to the present. Must see for skateboard aficionados everywhere. Art and graphic design by Todd Francis. Art. Art.
