  • Lincart: At Home. Curated by Lawrence Rinder.

Artists: Brian Chippendale, Ajit Chauhan, Dieter Roth, Franklin Williams.

Comment by AB: I'm not quite sure what the deal is here. The art's all good, but wrestling an overriding theme out of it-- that's something of a challenge. According to the briefing, "the art draws on similar energies and themes," but then they don't give you any hints or clues or anything. I guess you have to read between the lines... or maybe it's every man for himself (or woman for herself or bisexual person for themselves-- gawd... it's so complicated these days). None of this, however, compromises the quality of the opening night festivities. Good show; worth a visit.

Comment by DeWitt Cheng: Reflections by the Bay is a juried show at the huge California Modern Gallery featuring 156 works by 91 local mid-career artists.  The artworks, evenly divided between figurative and abstract, employ a variety of approaches, excepting perhaps only conceptual art. Gigantic space, lots of great work up until December 2.

Comment by AB: Juried group show of Bay Area Artists-- that simple and no more complicated.

Comment by AB: According to the poop sheet, what we have here are "thirteen notorious artists and more at North Beach's most exciting modernist gallery." Expanding on that, the joint's wiggy with characters, there's scrillions of exceptionally affordable works of art for sale, the libations flow freely, and so on and so forth and yes, it's a party. Uh oh... you missed it. One night only. I know, I know, my darlings-- you're crestfallen-- but enough blubbering. Thanks to producers Rebecca Peters and Ronald Sauer, there'll be plenty more where this one came from.
