SMAart Gallery: Figuratively Speaking 2014.
Artists: Bill Abright, Steve Allen, Michelle Gregor, Susannah Israel, Margaret Keelan, Joe Kowalczyk, Calvin Ma, Avery Palmer, Wanxin Zhang.
Review by Anneliese Vobis: The viewer is confronted with very different figurative styles in ceramics. The artists express fascinating clay alchemy, with excellent design, art and occasional architectural elements. Whether expressing political ironies or process driven, abstract hybrid projects convey metaphysical poetic associations.

Caldwell Snyder Gallery: Karl Klingbiel & Marti Somers - Recent Paintings.
Comment by AB: Mixed-media works by Marti Somers position text, patterns and realist elements against abstract backdrops. Karl Klingbiel waxes more towards expressive abstraction, his works communicating a sense of freedom and spontaneity.

The San Francisco Gallery: John Chang.
Review and images c/o Anneliese Vobis: At first sight, you might think of clear Abstract Expressionism in the style of Robert Motherwell, with countless spiritual elements. Messages about the destructed nature of language are presented in an exquisite play of black and white tones. Looking closer, we can see the multiple layers and delicate compositions of Chang's meaningful aesthetic concepts. The very geometric wooden assemblage letters are a strong contrast to his bold brushstrokes.

1AM Gallery: Paradise Lost - Kamea Hadar and Alex Kizu a.k.a. Defer.
Comment by AB: Pow! Wow! Hawaii Director Kamea Hadar focuses his attentions on beautiful women, accented with urban flourishes, while noted LA graffiti artist Defer infuses paintings with intense hieroglyphic energy.

Incline Gallery: Mythological Bird - Robin David and Jeffrey Yip.
Review by Anneliese Vobis: You'll be immersed in this magical, choreographic space transformation. The story about the spirit of endangered and extinct bird species captures all our senses. The excellent use of paper sculptures, light, sound and video reflection are overwhelming visual experiences. While walking through this dreamscape, we really can enjoy the very different perspectives of the exhibition.
