San Francisco Art Institute: Muralism Symposium.

Comment by AB: The Consulate General of Mexico in San Francisco in collaboration with SFAI present a symposium on murals, art and activism. You're all of course aware of the outstanding and historically important Diego Rivera mural here at SFAI (if you're not, you should be). Speaking of art and activism, the Mexican Consulate is far and away the most active consulate in the city in terms of presenting a consistent calendar of quality art exhibitions and events. Thank you!

Speaking of the Diego Rivera mural, there's much to be learned here. It glorifies where we once were and in so doing, portends where we are now. That's Rivera on the scaffold in the center. San Francisco has always been on the radical cutting edge as it was when this was painted... and shows no signs of relinquishing that cherished status anytime soon.

Modernism Gallery: Andreas Nottebohm - Water, Sun, Sky; Lucien Clergue - Corps Memorables.

Review by RWM: Fun to go swimming in the multi-hued blue "paintings" which shimmer and shift. It is almost as if the moving tide is also on display. Fascinating and compelling even if the style is the main achievement. The art work is unusual nonetheless and would bring life to any unadorned room.

Comment by AB: Andreas Nottebohm's magical burnished tinted aluminum panels dance before your eyes. In person is the only way to experience them; photos don't do justice. In the rear gallery, enjoy Lucien Clergue's sun dappled torsos. Good shows; go see.

Project One Gallery: Hapenis - Franz Szony.

Comment by AB: Reno artist Fanz Szony materializes wild bacchanalian fantasies by digitally interjecting real people into inconceivable circumstances. The priciest item on tonight's menu is a Swarovski crystal bodice. A jeweled gold leaf phonograph and full-length gown round out the docket. No dearth of ormolu here. Over-the-top all the way around. Worth a visit.
