Braunstein/Quay Gallery: Dennis Luedeman - New Metal Sculptures.

Comment by AB: Sleek clean mastery in metal here-- rusted steel, stainless steel, copper and bronze sculptures by Dennis Luedeman. Stop on by.

Catharine Clark Gallery: Scott Greene - Capitulare de Vita; Marina Zurkow - Elixir Series.

Comment by AB: Accomplished apocalyptic we're-going-to-hell-in-a-handbasket art by Scott Greene features a flame thrower, rapacious cell phone antenna towers, and garbage gone wild. One breathtaking painting of a three masted ship going over a waterfall does bear a curious resemblance to Ed Miracle's cover illustration for Thomas L. Friedman's book, The World is Flat. In the video parlor, a dreamy mirage on the high seas multi-screen adventure courtesy of Marina Zurkow. Good stuff on both counts and certainly worth a visit.

San Francisco Art Institute: San Francisco Arts Quarterly Release Party.

Comment by AB: It's a party in honor of the new improved enlarged San Francisco Arts Quarterly magazine-- a major league earnest attempt to catalog the extensive extent of Ess Eff artland action.

Galeria de la Raza: YTREBIL Prints and Drawings - Enrique Chagoya.

Comment by AB: I would hope we all know by now how brilliant an artist Enrique Chagoya is. In case you don't, this exhibition makes for a spankin' good primer. His drawings, lithographs, etchings and rivetingly provocative multi-panel narratives take on everything from war, politics and power to race, religion and the oppression. No topic too sensitive or sacred for Chagoya to weigh in on. The dude is the real genuine bona fide bodaciously unadulterated deal. Must see.

Fabric8 Gallery: Inside Outside - Daniel James Burt and Romanowski.

Comment by AB: My favorite here? Chia pet AK-47 by Romanowski. If only we could grow crops on all of our weapons. Then again, how fun would life be if you couldn't mow down your enemies and then gloat over their pools of freshly spewed blood?

I'm a perennial fan of Romanowski. Joseph Cornell with a designer's eye. Who's gonna be the first to challenge him with a significant solo show? I bet he's up to it.

White Walls Gallery: Ill Romantic - New Works by Casey Gray.

Review by Clare Coppel: Spray paint stencil on wood works by Casey Gray. Bright colorful repetitive urban pop images both soothing and disturbing.

Comment by AB: Casey Gray ratchets stencil art up a notch... or maybe two... or maybe three. Good stuff. Check it out.

The Shooting Gallery: Fur and Feathers - Chris Pugliese and Van Arno.

Review by Clare Coppel: Shooting Gallery presents Fur and Feathers (July 10-August 7) oil on canvas paintings by Chris Pugliese and Van Arno. Pugliese produces gorgeous images of gorgeous women with fur and feathers (and a self portrait). Van Arno explores alternate views of historical heroines with more nudity and shades of purple the I had previously associated with these "great works of fiction." Awesome.
