Eli Ridgway Gallery: Summer Show; Open Fields - Mark Benson (in the hallway); Andrew McClintock - Salt Water Battery (in the project space).

Artists of Summer Show: Mauricio Ancalmo, castaneda/reiman, Travis Collinson, Chris Duncan, Wolfgang Ganter, Rebecca Goldfarb, Cassandra C. Jones, Sean McFarland, James Sterling Pitt, Matthew Palladino, Brion Nuda Rosch, Jeffrey Simmons, Zachary Royer Scholz, Lindsey White.

Comment by AB: In the main upstairs & downstairs galleries, peruse a creditable cull of select works by gallery artists. In the entrance hallway, Mark Benson inconveniences plants while in the project space, Andrew McClintock melds art with science to charge up his art. Good art; stop on by.

Spoke Art Gallery: Paintures - Ron Ulicny.

Comment by AB: The title of Ron Ulicny's show refers to his presenting sculpture as painting. All works are comprised of atypical materials used in unconventional ways. Options include a contemporary rendition of Warhol's 200 Soup Cans except with Progresso soups instead of Campbell's (the same flavors in the same positions as the original), a perfectly bent and shaped chicken wire wall piece (high degree of difficulty), puzzle piece and playing card collages, and a grid work consisting of identical jars filled with white string. Worth a visit.

Artists: Steven Allen, Jenn Brazelton, Monique Castiaux, Natasha Dikareva, Alex Hackworth, Bryan Higgins, Lori Koening, John Richard Lloyd, Nikki Lau, Maggie Malloy, Oli Quezada, Bar Schacterman, Tiffany Schmierer.

Comment by AB: A surprisingly gratifying group show of studio ceramics. I wasn't aware of this place until tonight-- a gallery up front with studios in the back, but am delighted to know it now.

Comment by AB: In an ongoing endeavor, Shawn Tamaribuchi photographs top female fighters from around the world. An informative look both at the discipline and those who have mastered it.

[ 2nd Floor Projects ]: There is No Away - Veronica De Jesus & Minnette Lehmann.

Comment by AB: Veronica De Jesus exhibits 224 text-rich portraits of well-known artists, actors, musicians and other creatives who passed away between 2004 and 2013. I'm willing to bet that this exercise was one of the great educational experiences of her life. Minnette Lehmann shows several very early color digital prints (circa 1990) that she's had stored in the dark for years. And she'd better keep storing them that way; fade-proof inks had not been invented yet.
