Jack Fischer Gallery: Michelle Meunnig - Broken Open.

Review by RWM: Michelle Meunnig's abstracts with representational elements seem more suited to Spring and Summer than Winter. The life of the mind finds its place in her painted landscapes. The strange images surprise and suggest the need for introspection. You might just find bits and pieces of your psyche interspersed within Meunnig's fascinating symbology.

Hosfelt Gallery: Seascapes and Surf Works - Russell Crotty.

Comment by AB: California artist Russell Crotty essays in ink and watercolor on paper and on painted spheres (or globes) suspended from the ceiling-- those certain to get your attention. According to the instruction manual, the art "interpret(s) his observations of natural and man-made phenomena." Worth a look.

    New Timezone Gallery: Group Show.

Artists: Tim DeSoto, Fred Crum, Jack Freeman, Frank Sillman, Tripp Scott, Derf Murk.

Comment by AB: The art on exhibit ranges from abstract to surrealism; don't forget to check out the backyard. My faves? Spiffy cut paper creatures by Fred Crum-- $10-$300.

941 Geary Gallery: A New Beginning.

Artists: The Clayton Brothers, Kofie One, Mark Warren Jacques, Erik Otto, Tim Biskup, Joshua Petker, Cheryl Molnar, Michael Page, David Bayus, David Grant, Lina Marie Rincon, Oliver Vernon, David Choong Lee, Henry Gunderson, Scott Hove, Robert Minervini, Jon Todd, Hush.

Review by Clare Coppel: 941 Geary, a new gallery from Justin Giarla, owner and curator of The Shooting Gallery and White Walls, opens tonight with "A New Beginning" (June 26-July 10), an exhibit of large, colorful, exquisite and fantastical paintings and one gigantic pink frosted feral Freudian chandelier (Scott Hove). The space its self is a beautifully remodeled automotive garage perfect for exhibiting large-scale pieces.

Review by RWM: Nice variety of work on display, a healthy percentage trending abstract and surreal. The abstracts are lively, but the surrealist works impress even more. Vibrant colors and contrasts and strange associations draw you into the compositions. But watch out! Look too closely and you may never escape.

Comment by AB: Fine spacious new exhibition space brought to you by the management of the Shooting Gallery/White Walls complex, just down the block and around the corner. The inaugural group show certainly warrants a perusal.
