Andrea Schwartz Gallery: Patrick Dintino - Leisure Quest.

Comment by AB: Patrick Dintino quantifies the concept of "leisure" from two distinctly disparate perspectives-- entertaining meticulously detailed collages and variegated oblong spectroscopic paintings. The collage connection is clear; positioning the paintings as representing "the emotional effect of colors sampled from these elusive (leisure) environments" seems like somewhat of a hard sell.

San Francisco Art Institute: Dan Perjovschi - The Institute Drawing; On Kawara - Pure Consciousness at 19 Kindergartens.

Comment by AB: Romanian artist Dan Perjovschi graffitis up the main gallery with poignancy and relevance, his petroglyphic extravaganza encompassing pretty much everything including recent political upheavals, hippie homilies, the art world, the G-20 summit, and BP's horrific Gulf of Mexico mischief. A side gallery has plenty of chalk on hand for participatory wall-embellishing activities.

Upstairs, New York artist On Kawara presents a line of seven "date paintings" that he has previously displayed in 19 kindergartens around the world as part of an exercise entitled "Pure Consciousness." Both show statements are firmly entrenched in the arcane ionosphere of elitist abracadabra, which pretty much filters me out of the mix. Though laid low by bombast, never count me out; I somehow manage to claw my way back into the essence and end up appreciating the dealie bob on my own terms. So there!
