Dolby Chadwick Gallery: Bernadette Jiyong Frank - Spaces in Between.

Comment by AB: You can either bask in multitudinous rays of light that emanate from space or glimpse the darkness of the unfathomable unknown (or both) in the precision paintings of Bernadette Jiyong Frank. According to the explanatory, mathematics, geometry and the concept of "ma", a Japanese term referring to "the space between objects and events that is both empty and yet full of meaning" are all embodied in her work. Worth a visit.

Caldwell Snyder Gallery: Off to Sea - Nicholas Wilton.

Review by RWM: Fun relaxing time reveling in these pastel colors which usually soothe. According to the show's title, these pleasing abstractions may reference a nice day by the shore.

Altman Siegel Gallery: Sara VanDerBeek - Ancient Objects, Still Lives.

Comment by AB: Digital c-prints in unnatural shades of purple and blue by Sara VanDerBeek at times reference Pre-Columbian artifacts. Other images seem part real and part mirage, straddling the chasm between existence and imagination. Nicely done; go see.

Corden Potts Gallery: Stephen Galloway, Camille Seaman and Karen Glaser.

Review by RWM: Incredible photographs of aberrant weather which will worry you about the storm. Photographer Camille Seaman points out that tornadoes can happen out there in the Sacramento Valley, but probably not as ominous as some of those captured here. These storms do not look like they are going to take you to Oz with the clouds being pitch black at times. Our vulnerability to the new climatology is captured here.

Comment by AB: Also on view are meticulous plant life still-lifes by Stephen Galloway and mysterious black & white underwater images by Karen Glaser.

Robert Tat Gallery: William Odiorne's Paris - Vintage Photographs from the 1920s.

Review by RWM: Nice journey here to Paris of the past. The lack of color brings a sense of mystery and wonder to these images which depict the city beautifully. One can revel in these even though time has gone by. The rain seems to be on the way.
