  • Braunstein/Quay Gallery: Kimberly Austin - 12-Year Retrospective; William Noguera - Drawings.

Comment by AB: Twelve-year retrospective of work by Kimberly Austin, mainly photography, contemplates issues of gender, identity, sexuality, and pleasure, while also pondering what may or may not consitute normal or appropriate human behavior. In the rear gallery you'll discover magnificently intricate drawings by self-taught artist and Death Row inmate, William Noguera.

Luscious Garage: Sarah Lyon - Everybody Knows This is Nowhere, Portraits and Spaces of Louisville, Kentucky.

Comment by AB: Sarah Lyon effectively evokes the Zeitgeist of Kentucky-- Louisville in particular-- through a series of sensitive large-scale portrait and landscape photographs. Also on the docket and available for purchase are Lyon's 2007 and 2008 "Female Mechanics" calendars. Like 'em.

    Ar+Space: Living the Dream.

Artists: Orion Martin, Piotr Rizov, Tom Betthauser, Ray Lordi.

Comment by AB: Show of work by four SFAI students, competent on all counts, but the small-format paintings by Tom Betthauser usurp my attention. I mean the dude's practically gallery ready and he's still in undergraduate art school. Betthauser tells me he's gonna be a senior and that he dropped out of engineering school to pursue art. Normally I wouldn't think that's a good idea, but in this case it is.
