Alexis Laurent Studio: Alexis Laurent - Be a Flâneur.

Comment by AB: Alexis Laurent converts his 9000 square foot studio into a gallery and introduces his oeuvre to the world by throwing himself a show. The verdict? Complete success. His large-scale sculptural works in particular are perfect for public spaces-- or private as well, if your estate happens to be expansive enough. Remarkable how an artist with this degree of ability-- both in painting and sculpture-- has been able to keep himself entirely off the radar until now. I suppose when you're ready to be seen, you might as well do it right-- and Laurent unquestionably does. Also on the agenda is the release of a monograph on Laurent's art, with an introduction by Robert Flynn Johnson (Curator Emeritus of the Achenbach Foundation). As for the word "Flâneur," it appears to be used here in the Baudelairean sense of "a person who walks the city in order to experience it" (I think). The exhibition is beautifully laid out and surely worth a visit.

FreeGoldWatch: How to Run L.A - New mixed media work by Ryan Graeff of Restitution Press.

Review by RWM: Wonderful cityscapes reminiscent of artist Hilary Williams, but not so soulful in this town, aka Los Angeles. But you will be taken with the warmth and stylish buildings. Urban landscapes and icons are also on display as you follow the roads through the LA Zone. You sense the trammeling crowd and the continuous marathon of existence.

Comment by AB: Los Angeles screen print and mixed media specialist Ryan Graeff trundles his Southern California ethos up North to show Ess Eff's fog-addled denizens how the other 80% lives. Pretty spiffy work too. Plus special added bonus-- an oversized screen print book in a box-- 100% art, limited to only 50 copies-- and only $100. Recommended. But it's all good here.
