Cain Schulte Contemporary Art: The Ghost and the Whale - Justin Quinn and Mark Fox.

Comment by AB: Justin Quinn makes art out of the letter "E" by printing it over and over and over again. Why? Well for one thing, he tells me, it's the letter at the top of the Eye Chart. But if it's an Eye Chart, shouldn't the top letter be "I"? Ponder that. Balancing the escapade out are elaborate intertwined cut-outs by Mark Fox.

Recology SF Artist in Residence Program: Scott Kildall, Niki Ulehla, Alex Nichols.

Comment by AB: Scott Kildall combines found objects into fictional devices and then arts up diagrammatic blueprints to explain how they operate. Out back, Alex Nichols explores the expressionist potential of refuse. Part of Niki Ulehla's take on the stuff we all toss is to make jewelry out of it.

Romer Young Gallery: Liam Everett - being-with.

Comment by AB: I ask Liam Everett what his art is about and he answers, "Nothing." Then he elaborates on that by saying it's also about everything. Anyway, the conversation progressively devolves into one of those really twisty arty wry cleverly convoluted kind of doublespeak deals where if anything makes any sense at all, it's pure kismet, the upchuck of which is that I inch incrementally closer to aesthetic enlightenment, or not. But the art's got acrylic, salt and alcohol in it, a combination that makes for some uncommon visual consequence.

Velcrow Studios: Petra Duffoo - Buy & Bye Retrospective.

Review by RWM: Sorry to see you go, Petra Duffoo. Nice achievement to be able to make abstracts with recognizable styles. So pleasant, yet the work is also provocative in a way. I guess the word for it is cool.

Comment by AB: Petra Duffoo's off to Amsterdam and blowing out seven years of art before she hit's the road. The prices are ludicrously low. And guess what? This being San Francisco, gobs of it are sold.
