Hosfelt Gallery: Marco Maggi - West vs. East.

Comment by AB: Delight in the intensely disciplined and intricate art of Uruguayan artist Marco Maggi, who is certain to cut, etch and draw his way into your consciousness. So much of today's art is big, blatant and way too easy to quantify and digest-- kind of like fast food hamburgers. Maggi's work will actually slow you down and make you think, and once you adjust yourself to the pace of his show, you won't believe how much there is to discover. Not everything has to be in-your-face instant all the time. Subtlety, finesse, elegance, and occasionally slowing down for a closer more contemplative look will never go out of style. Definitely worth experiencing. It's a bona fide pinkie cam paradise.

Comment by AB: Art art art and art crams every square inch of available exhibition space at the White Walls & Shooting Gallery multiplex. The festivities include a group show of alphabet-themed art (in alphabetical order) in the front gallery, action packed urban visions by John Felix Arnold III in the center gallery, an art + text adventure by Helen Bayly in the front left side gallery, ghostly visages and a sculpture carved into an antique marble column by Jorge Rodríguez-Gerada in the rear left side gallery, art & installation by Adam Friedman and Robert Minervini in the right side gallery, and to top it all off, an overwhelming group show of small-format works in the all-the-way-back gallery. Whew!

ArtZone 461 Gallery: A Sense of Place - Heidi McDowell; Fine Art for Your Study or Den - Adam Cahoon.

Comment by AB: In the main gallery, Heidi McDowell takes us travelling near and far including to the icy reaches of the North, underneath an elevated freeway, an open field flecked with dew covered spiderwebs, and right here at home to watch the fog roll into The Bay. In the side gallery, Adam Cahoon amusingly abstracts classical and Old Master compositions.
