The McLoughlin Gallery: Iconoclasm - Arnix Wilnoudt and Max Papeschi.

Comment by AB: Two Italian artists transport their special brand of satire across the sea and over the land, all the way West to San Francisco, expressly for our edification and enjoyment. If you're one of those sensitive types who delights in being offended, then this is the perfect show for you. Nothing too sacred to skewer for this pair.

Christian Daniels Gallery: Streets of San Francisco - Annual Group Invitational.

Artists: Sung Eun Kim, Paul Cheng, Christin Coy, Po Pin Lin, Hsin-Yao Tseng, Young-Ji Cha, Cathleen Van Bergen, Mary Lou Correia, Jin Hee Lee, Doohong Min, Yen-Ching Chang, Jacob Dhein, James Kroner, Richard Schloss, Doohong Min, Melissa Yarbrough.

Review by RWM: Though sometimes idealized, these paintings can also be somber. The city streets, if one follows the news, are rife with crime and turmoil. They are not the kind of place you want to allow your children to be free in. One could write a crime book or make a crime movie these days with the title Streets of San Francisco, using the title of a crime TV show decades ago. The streets are probably worse elsewhere in other cities though.

It might not be the fault of some of the street denizens who would be happy to get off the streets or find a living wage job. If one can get away from their paranoia they might be able to fully appreciate the city's offerings which are varied and unexpected. More fun though for those with money. There is also sometimes a little bit of rain. The City Lights are beautiful at times. The works assembled are wonderful, though to be expected, at times a bit downbeat. Art is about truth and joy, and the city strives to improve itself with artists being a necessary ally and teller.
