Gallery Paule Anglim: Clare Rojas - Caerulea; Ala Ebtekar - Parallax.

Comment by AB: In the main gallery, enjoy rich precision balanced hard-edge abstractions by Clare Rojas. In the side gallery, Ala Ebtekar shows three works, a painting, a light box and a miniature, each depicting the cosmos from a distinct perspective. Good art; go see.

Modernism Gallery: Mark Stock - Lives of the Butlers, Memorial Exhibition.

Comment by AB: Mark Stock, best known for his series of paintings titled "The Butler's in Love," passed on way too prematurely in March. This memorial exhibition shows just a small sample of his considerable versatility, technical skills, sensitivity, flair for drama, and sense of humor. For those of you keeping score at home, he was also an accomplished magician. He will be greatly missed.

K Imperial Fine Art: Paper Verbs - Missy Engelhardt.

Review by Anna Rotty: Paper Verbs by Missy Engelhardt is a beautiful exhibit of works on paper. With her unique approach to utilizing the material, Engelhardt creates gorgeous rhythmic patterns, each from a single piece of paper, by altering the surface with cuts, folds and bends, or bleach. Each work has the repetitive imperfect characteristics of something found in nature, like cracks in dry desert dirt, a detail of ice crystallizing on a windshield or an aerial view of desert sand. She makes the challenge of creating structure, depth and value from a single sheet of flat material seem seamless, and the simplicity of her technique only strengthens each piece.
