Fraenkel Gallery: Katy Grannan - The 99.

Comment by AB: Katy Grannan's heroic penetrating portraits and black & white documentary photographs, now available as a book titled "The 99," remind us to never forget the destitute, homeless, street people, and everyone else who is otherwise deprived of life's most basic amenities. As easy as it is not to help someone, do them a favor and try. Worth seeing.

Modernism Gallery: Charles Arnoldi - New Paintings; Mark Ulriksen - Irrational Exuberance.

Review by RWM: Very pleasant works by Charles Arnoldi serve as interesting encounters with all sorts of colors. Nice mixtures and contrasts. Engaging use of shapes for works that will brighten your day. Fun to see the famous New Yorker cover artist Mark Ulriksen show his art in The City by the Bay. Wonderful and spirited and also very political at times. The paintings for these covers say so much. Fun and funny and sometimes candid.

Comment by AB: In the front gallery, Charles Arnoldi's colorful geometric and vector field abstractions wax a mite hasty or slapdash at times. Surprising for such an accomplished artist. In the rear gallery, veteran New Yorker Magazine cover artist Mark Ulriksen lets loose for a change and paints what he wants to paint rather than what others hire him to paint. Both options are on display and they're all good... really good. Go see.

McKinley Art Solutions at Hotel Triton: Edward Sherman - Urban Impressions.

Review by RWM: Surreal take on The City. Revel in the amazing and wonderful. The work is evocative and emotional for one who finds a home here. Fascinating show moves you through the terrain. Great way to visit the outer boundaries of a city that has a life independent of all it's residents. Here is an interesting perspective.
