    Ratio 3 Gallery: Buck Ellison.

Comment by AB: Buck Ellison focuses his attentions on various aspects of display as relate to material goods, with a particular penchant for conspicuous consumption. His compositions range from accessible to arcane, but are always engaging. Worth a visit.

Lot 21 Gallery: Richard Copeland Miller - Shadow Dancers.

Comment by AB: Significant retrospective of photographs by Richard Copeland Miller who passed away in 2002. An accomplished photographer, his considerable accomplishments include publishing several books of his work and founding Lift the Children, an organization dedicated to protecting children around the world. Dark and atmospheric imagery for the most part, almost too dark.

Sanchez Art Center: Pierre Merkl aka Mr. Lucky - Scenes, Schemes & Genes (Skeins). Curated by DeWitt Cheng.

Comment by AB: Every single one of Pierre Merkl's portraits and portrait groups has a story, as does every single facial expression depicted in them. Subject matters range from autobiographical to complex psychological studies. Worth seeing (and hearing about).

Artists: Ian Berry, Ernest Cole, David Goldblatt, Handspring Puppet Company, Nicholas Hlobo, ijusi (Garth Walker), Anton Kannemeyer, William Kentridge, Donna Kukama, Terry Kurgan, Sabelo Mlangeni, Santu Mofokeng, Billy Monk, Zanele Muholi, Sello Pesa and Vaughn Sadie with Ntsoana Contemporary Dance Theatre, Cameron Platter, Lindeka Qampi, Jo Ractliffe, Athi-Patra Ruga, Berni Searle, Penny Siopis, Mikhael Subotzky and Patrick Waterhouse, Kemang Wa Lehulere.

Comment by AB: A look at contemporary life in South Africa as viewed through the eyes of its artists. From politics to leisure, personalities to daily obligations, this exhibition can surely be categorized as a learning experience. Yet again, art is the vehicle which brings disparate cultures just a wee bit closer together. Check it out.
